The Chisapani area trek starts from Sundarijal, where there's a small dam and a hydroelectricity station in the northeast corner of the Kathmandu valley. The walk leads to a climb through wet, subtropical forest to an oak forest and on to Mulkharka, a scattered Tamang village. The trail again ascends through oak forest to a pass called Burlung Bhanjyang. After reaching the ridge, the walk continues on the trail, descending to Chisopani for the overnight stop. Chisapani, offers fabulous panoramic views of the Jugal mountain range including Langtang, Ganesh and as far towards Mt.Everest in the far east and Manaslu, Annapurna towards far west.
Day 04: Chisapani to Kutumasang (2470 m/8101ft)
The trail continues to drop from Chisapani on a good, sometimes level trail that crosses meadows & fields. Patibhanjyang is on a saddle at the bottom of the ridge at 1770m. This is a Brahming & Chhetri village with a few shops & hotels. The trail heads north out of the Patibhanjyang along the forested ridge & then descends to a large chorten, the Tamang village of Gul Bhanjyang . This is a delightful, classic hill village. Again, the trail climbs the ridge from Gum Bhanjyang to another pass at 2620m. From the pass one can look back over Gul Bhanjyang at the bottom. The trail then descends to Kutumasang at 2470m for the overnight stay.
Day 05: Kutumasang to Tharepati (3510 m/11512ft)
The trail climbs above Kutumasang on a steep, eroded trail, mostly through fir & rhododendron forests where there are no permanent settlements. It then descends to Magen Goth (3150m) and finally reaches Tharepati for overnight stay.
Day 06: Tharepati to Tarkeghyang (2600 m/8528ft)
We continue east descending steeply down a ravine. The vegetation changes to large firs, then to oaks & rhododendron. Crossing a stream on a suspension bridge, the trail makes a short final climb to reach the prosperous Sherpa village Melachigaon (2530m).
From Melamchigaon, the trail continues to descend to the Melamchi river. Once across the suspension bridge, the trail begins climbing up the other side of the valley towards Tarkeghyang. It is a long climb to this picturesque village at 2600m, situated on a shelf high above the river. Tarkeghyang is the largest village in Helambu and the destination for the most trekkers in this region. It is a good place to rest and stay overnight.
Day 07: Tarkeghyang to Talamarang (960 m/3148ft)
From Tarkeghyang, the trail makes a sweep around the wide valley end between Parachin and the pretty village of Gangjwal at around 2500m. The trail drops down from the edge of the ridge but then continues at the same altitude along the side of the ridge crossing a number of streams, waterfalls and landslides. Finally, it reaches Talamarang where we stay overnight.
